They should not have left him there alone,
Alone that is except for the cat.
He was only nine, not old enough
To be left alone in a basement flat,
Alone, that is, except for the cat.
A dog would have been a different thing,
A big gruff dog with slashing jaws,
But a cat with round eyes mad as gold,
Plump as a cushion with tucked-in paws—-
Better have left him with a fair-sized rat!
But what they did was leave him with a cat.
He hated that cat; he watched it sit,
A buzzing machine of soft black stuff,
He sat and watched and he hated it,
Snug in its fur, hot blood in a muff,
And its mad gold stare and the way it sat
Crooning dark warmth: he loathed all that.
So he took Daddy’s stick and he hit the cat.
Then quick as a sudden crack in glass
It hissed, black flash, to a hiding place
In the dust and dark beneath the couch,
And he followed the grin on his new-made face,
A wide-eyed, frightened snarl of a grin,
And he took the stick and he thrust it in,
Hard and quick in the furry dark.
The black fur squealed and he felt his skin
Prickle with sparks of dry delight.
Then the cat again came into sight,
Shot for the door that wasn’t quite shut,
But the boy, quick too, slammed fast the door:
The cat, half-through, was cracked like a nut
And the soft black thud was dumped on the floor.
Then the boy was suddenly terrified
And he bit his knuckles and cried and cried;
But he had to do something with the dead thing there.
His eyes squeezed beads of salty prayer
But the wound of fear gaped wide and raw;
He dared not touch the thing with his hands
So he fetched a spade and shovelled it
And dumped the load of heavy fur
In the spidery cupboard under the stair
Where it’s been for years, and though it died
It’s grown in that cupboard and its hot low purr
Grows slowly louder year by year:
There’ll not be a corner for the boy to hide
When the cupboard swells and all sides split
And the huge black cat pads out of it.

Re: Secret Exposed idea from DeafRedBear (via CazASL22)
In response to “Deafness for Dummies” (via CazASL22)
I bought a book called British Sign Language for Dummies - it’s a really useful book and certainly helps me with developing better materials and good for people who want to learn BSL. I love this book and is using it a lot for my work!
Yesterday, I went to my first meeting (the 175th years Anniversary committee) for Deaf Action. It was very interesting! Looking forward to working with the committee in the next year to come!
Yesterday, I saw a really nice travel journal in a nice little shop so I went ahead and bought it. It will be useful for when I go on holiday to the USA next year.
Tomorrow, I’m going out with friends, for a meal and then to the Edinburgh Deaf Party so is really looking forward to that! It has been a while since I was out with friends!
That’s what I have been up to this week!
I can’t wait till next year - I wish it was July 2010 already!!
I’m going to travel to New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco and possibly more..if you have any suggestions for us to travel to (or to give us some good info about cheap hotels etc etc etc etc), I would be very grateful!
Well, that’s the plan in my mind..still have not made any move on booking hotels etc, as my friend wants to come with me on the travels, we will wait till she gets back from her holiday with her boyfriend, they will be in Australia this Christmas..lucky them!!
If all goes well with the visas etc for my brother to move to Los Angeles, hopefully I and my family will join him in Los Angeles for Christmas/New Year. But..wait and see what happens.. need to keep positive for my brother!!
Really looking to the travelling - I’ve never travelled like that before - so will be an awesome experience! Even better, my friend will be with me! Originally, I was going to travel on my own, I’ve never done that either!
Anyway…wish it was here already!

British Sign Language Tutorial - Health Phrases
I love American tv shows - sometimes they are much better than the British tv shows we have here. Some of them can be rubbish!
But there are a very few British tv shows that I do watch, like for example:
River City (occissionally)
This Life which is the best British tv show ever! I wish it was back! :(
Anyway, so more than often, I watch American tv shows like
And most recently, I have started watching One Tree Hill, Ghost Whisper and Privillaged.
So, what are your fave tv shows?
So, I have read Kevin (Yodakevin or bbdqsony)’s blog and read the link from his blog.
I mean, what the f**k?
Why is the Black Coalition against Gay Marriage is campanging?
I don’t understand at all!
I mean it wasn’t that long since the Black people fought for their rights, for people to accept mixed race marriages, for the divide between the Black and the white people to stop, to allow them to mix in public places, schools etc etc.
And now some of them are campagining against the gay/lesbian community???
I am sorry to say this, but they are hypocritie (two-faced) for sure!
Again, I say - WTF?
Right, I feel much better now that I have got this off my chest…
Thank you for reading!
